10 Benefits of IV Therapy
IV therapy is an exciting way to give your body what it needs fast, without swallowing dozens of pills every day or completely changing your lifestyle. Find out what it can do for you.

Intravenous (IV) therapy is designed to swiftly and efficiently send a large dose of liquid vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients directly into your bloodstream. This process can help patients suffering from many complaints, including cold or flu, hangover, low energy, poor athletic performance, or chronic illness.

At House Call Doctors of Pacific Northwest PLLC, with three offices in Bellingham, Snohomish and Everett, Washington, our team, including Bernadette Kimemia, DNP, ARNP, FNP-C, and Phyllis Muthee, NP, ARNP, offer a variety of IV therapy and IV hydration options. We can complete this service in-house or in the comfort of your own home.

IV therapy basics

IV therapy is generally considered an alternative medicine treatment. It’s often called infusion, since a large dose of vitamins and minerals as well as other holistic supplements can be directly infused into your bloodstream via an IV.

Each infusion can be carefully tailored for the desired effect. Your body can retain more of the vitamins and minerals given in this way, since they don’t go through the digestive system like orally administered doses do.

10 benefits of IV therapy

There are many benefits to IV therapy. Just a few include:

  1. Energy boost: The right mix of vitamins and minerals in an IV fluid can reduce fatigue.
  2. Athlete recovery: Electrolytes are key to helping sports players bounce back fast.
  3. Weight loss: Carefully chosen vitamins and nutrients can help burn fat more effectively.
  4. Immune support: Antioxidant-packed IV fluids help support your immune system.
  5. Hangover “cure”: Rapid rehydration can reduce the aftereffects of over indulgence.
  6. Get sunshine benefits: Battle low levels with a vitamin D-rich IV mix for better health.
  7. Beat travel fatigue: Frustrating jet lag can be suppressed with a revitalizing IV infusion.
  8. Fight off cold and flu: Plenty of vitamin C and amino acids can help shorten recovery.
  9. Battle chronic illness: The Myer’s cocktail has been shown to offer broad support for a variety of health conditions.
  10. Slower aging: The coenzyme NAD (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) can work at a mitochondrial level to enhance cellular turnover.

Your IV therapy session

To prepare for IV therapy, we’ll review your symptoms and needs, and then we’ll help design an IV infusion that is customized just for you. On the day of your appointment, whether you come to our office or we come to your house, wear comfortable clothing so that you can relax.

We will make sure that you are situated in a comfortable position, typically in a chair with a blanket and pillow if desired. We’ll insert a very thin needle with a tube inside it into the vein in your arm, then remove the needle, leaving the tiny tube in place to deliver the IV fluid.

The entire process only takes about 45-60 minutes. You’ll stay seated, but you can read, watch television, listen to music, or nap while the infusion slowly enters your body and begins to take effect. Most people say they can feel the results of IV therapy quickly. Many of our patients get regular infusions to keep their health on track by providing their body with hydration and nutrients.
